Fairfax House in York is a prominent Georgian townhouse with a rich history. Originally built in the 1740s, it was purchased by Viscount Fairfax of Elmley around 1760, who commissioned John Carr to remodel it. The house served as a winter home for the Fairfax family, including Viscount Fairfax and his daughter Anne. It later became a gentleman's club, a cinema, and a dance hall before being extensively restored by the York Civic Trust in the 1980s.
