Best Hikes to Isenburg Ruins (Hattingen)

Tips

  • Today only an impressive ruin remains of the former Isenburg, which was built in the 12th century for Count Arnold von Altena on the Isenberg. In the middle of the ruins stands the Custodis House, which was built around 1855 in the classicist style.

  • The ruin is well worth seeing. You can feel more inebriated times back, since still a lot is preserved.
There is also a small museum there, which is open only on Sundays. Also, the view of the Ruhr is wonderful, so it's worth it to hike up there

  • Well-preserved castle ruins. Here you can literally recreate the castle bustle of earlier centuries.
