What once started as a sand and gravel quarry is today one of the most beautiful nature reserves in North Limburg. The Reindersmeer, located in the heart of the Maasduinen National Park, is an impressive example of how former sand and gravel extraction can transform into a valuable landscape for people and nature. Sand was extracted here between 1971 and 2001. The deep lake that was created as a result is now an oasis of tranquility with clear water, boardwalks, observation towers and rare flora and fauna. Cyclists and hikers will find kilometres of well-maintained paths here, with beautiful views over the water and the surrounding heathland.
