The Lochbachtal is a beautiful Bachtal in Solingen, which is partially designated as biotope protection area

I seem to have been spoiled by the Bergisches Land and the Thuringian Forest. Unfortunately, this route goes too close to the city for me, so I rarely had the feeling of actually being in the forest. But that's just my opinion. Many others liked the route.

"... The Lochbach, a "watercourse of the second order", rises from several sources at the court of Obenscheidt in Solingen-Gräfrath. One source was in a well surrounded by the former Quellenhof near Schlagbaumer Straße. In the past (according to Lunkenheimer around 1780) the stream was named Lobach, Lohbach and Laubach in the upper reaches and Brosbach and Brobach in the lower reaches.

The Lochbach then flows piped to the Dültgenstal. The Demmeltratherbach comes from the north and flows into the Lochbach at the Lauterjungskotten, later the screen furniture factory Gebr. Dültgen.

The Lochbach flows through the area of the Scheider Mühle and the former Dorpskotten to Tiefendick/ Bech/ Deusberg to the Poschheide and from the Poschheider Mühle to the Hilden city limits. In the area of the sewage treatment plant (on the border road in Solingen-Ohligs) it flows into the Itter. The Lochbach flows through the Solingen area only.

The water of the Lochbach used to power 17 waterworks, including

          - 2 hammers,

          - 11 grinding cottages and

          - 4 fruit grinders.

Shortly before Christmas 1944, an article about a hike in the Lochbachtal appeared in the Solingen Tageblatt. The author R. Schaberg mentions the Dorpskotten as the only grinding hut on the Lochbach, although in 1944 the Locher Kotten was still there and probably still in operation. In addition to the Schiedermühle (Scheider Mühle) mentioned by Schaberg, there were also the Becher Mühle, the Poschheider Mühle and the Broßhauser Mühle on the Lochbach. ..."
