The municipality of Wust states on an information board about the location that there was already a church in the 13th century, of which nothing is known about its appearance and fate. What is certain is that there was a predecessor building in the 15th century, of which the base of the tower still exists in the 21st century. In the years 1880 to 1882, craftsmen erected a new building and incorporated the tower base of the previous church.
