Road Cycling Highlight
The barrage Krotzenburg is a weir with lock, which connects the two communities Großkrotzenburg on the northern bank of the Main and the Hainburg district Klein-Krotzenburg on the southern bank of the Main via a pedestrian walkway. The weir of the barrage is divided into three segments. The stowage in each segment is carried out by lowerable flap weirs, with a weir closure of 36 m width, which dams the water up to a fall height of 2.74 m. On the northern side of the Main Krotzenburg side are the two lock chambers for large shipping and a boat lock. The northernmost chamber is still based on the old lock of 1921. Effective length of the two lock chambers is 300, or 302 m, with a respective useful width of 12 m. The lock chambers are remotely controlled from a control center of the WSA Aschaffenburg. The boot lock is still operated by the users themselves and has a useful length of 19.65 m with a width of 4.00 m.
On Grosskrotzenburg side reminds today an old turbine wheel to the place of the old barrage. On the other side of the Main a sculpture "Alte Schleuse".
In June 1997, a serious accident occurred at the lock, in which three young men were killed by the Aschaffenburg Waterways and Shipping Authority. Two of the laborers were capsizing. A memorial plaque on the side of the small Krotzenburg reminds of the deceased
