Best Hikes to Melkhörndüne (Highest Point on Langeoog)

Tips

  • The Melkhörndüne is the highest point (20 meters) on the island, from whose platform you can see the entire island. A wonderful place for bird lovers to watch the flocks of migratory birds. It owes its name to the nearby dairy, where the cows were milked back then. Melkhörn means "Melkecke".

  • It is the highest point on the island and, once 21.3 meters high, was also the highest natural point in East Frisia for a long time. The Melkhörn (= Melkecke) owes its name to the fact that the cows were milked here at the former 1st dairy until 1952.
