This big stupa (chedi) was constructed between the 14th and 15th century. It once contained the emerald buddha that you can see in Luang Prabang (Laos) now, where it was transferred to after the chedi suffered damage from an earthquake in 1551.
Around the chedi you can find several other interesting places, e.g. two wihans, one of them with a big buddha statue, a buddhist library, and the town pillar of Chiang Mai.May 3, 2019
Since the temple is open for a relatively long time, you can still go there after dark. Then there will be no queue and the noise will be great
