Welcome to Aquileia.
A Roman colony founded in 181 BC, it was the capital of the X Legio Augustea, and one of the most important cities in the entire Empire.
It was home to one of the main and first early Christian churches that earned it the title of Patriarchate.
It was also the capital of Friuli, so much so that today the official flag of the Region is the Eagle, the historic flag of Aquileia.
Recognized as a World Heritage Site for its mosaics considered the most impressive in the Western Christian world.
