The Vogt of Weida probably built a fortified outpost here in 1238 to protect his possessions around Hof, appointing a knight named Murring for this purpose. The complex was known as Murringhof until the beginning of the 15th century. After that, it changed owners frequently. In 1972, the Hof entrepreneur Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans Vießmann acquired the castle, extensively restored it, and repurposed it as a training center. Today, the castle is privately owned. A guest house has been built nearby, which can be rented for conferences. The complex is nestled in a park-like forest.
