In the 1970s, a gravestone with the name of Jan Claesen was found in the cemetery in Andel. The – damaged – gravestone stated that he was murdered on 5 October 1634 by a resident of Breda and that his remains were buried on 8 October 1634.
Marcus Ravenswaaij, who had been asked to see if the gravestone could be restored, designed “Jan Claesen”, in which he studied the clothing worn by soldiers at that time. A number of small versions of his design were cast and sold.
