After the victory at Jena and a rest in Poznań (19 days), on 16 December 1806 Napoleon left the capital of Wielkopolska towards Warsaw. On 18 December in the evening he reached Łowicz. He stopped at the Hotel Imperial, which was located in a tenement house on the Market Square, owned by Ignacy Kosiorkiewicz. The city was illuminated in his honour and curious residents of the city gathered in front of the tenement house. The Emperor ate dinner, conferred for a while, sent a courier to Berlin and at around 8 p.m. he left for Warsaw.
