The lighthouse keeper's house is one of the few original buildings on Schokland from the island period. The building was built in 1901 by Rijkswaterstaat. The harbour master of Emmeloord was also the 'lighthouse keeper' of the lighthouse. De Lichtwachter is on the national monument list together with the nearby foghorn building.
