The following story is told about this area:
Near Köhlerlohe, a hermit lived in a small church dedicated to "Our Lady" in the middle of the forest. A learned man, he was the family physician of the Nothaffte von Weißenstein – an old noble family. While searching for medicinal herbs, he once found the body of a dead Nothafft woman. She had killed herself. She was not allowed to be buried in consecrated ground. Therefore, the hermit cleared a patch of forest and buried the noblewoman. Farmers settled there and named the place Frauenreuth after the noblewoman. From the large pond near Köhlerlohe, one can hear the Ave bells; the hermit's little church stood there. It has sunk.
