In 1134 there was already mention of a parish church, the patronage of which was vested in the Saint Gudula Chapter in Brussels.

The originally Romanesque church had a 12th-century tower that was initially built above the chancel. During the religious disputes in the second half of the 16th century, the church was badly damaged. Around 1600, the chancel, which was the most badly damaged, was rebuilt. In 1729, the tower was restored.

In 1780-1781, the chancel and nave were demolished and replaced by a classicist building. The tower was built into the east façade. The church was then oriented to the west, while the original orientation was to the east.

It is a pseudo-basilica built in locally quarried sandstone. The heavy square late Romanesque built-in east tower has an upper floor from 1729 and is crowned with a tent roof. The church has a painting Charity of Saint Martin from 1656 that is located on the baroque southern side altar. The northern side altar is from 1782. There are some gravestones from the first half of the 17th century.
