The tower from the 14th century is part of the 2nd city fortification, which was baptized by fire in 1629 in the 30-year war and brought the city of Burg the title: "... a well-kept city". During the Thirty Years' War, the city of Burg and Swedish troops fought violently at the three-storey Berlin gate tower from 1626-1644. With the Witches Tower and the Kuhturm, it is one of 30 defense and watch towers along the city wall.

The Berlin gate tower was built in the 14th century from fieldstone and was one of about 30 towers of the city castle. He belonged as a gate tower to the Berlin Gate, which was demolished in 1806, but the tower was preserved. Paving stones in the adjacent Berliner Straße still mark the gate. The three-storey tower has a mighty stone cylinder with a crenellated wreath.
