The church, along with the adjacent convent complex, was built on the site of the former Ursuline bastion. The church's foundation stone was laid in 1696. Until 1900, the Ursuline nuns owned the complex, which was then transferred to the School Sisters of Graz.
To the northwest of the church are a convent building and a school building (Sister Klara Fietz Elementary School) belonging to the Graz School Sisters.
