The Klein-Clausthal Pond – also called the Little Clausthal Pond – is located in the Kleiner Clausthal, a steep mountain valley southwest of Clausthal-Zellerfeld. This former mining pond once provided water for the waterwheels of the ore mines and stamp mills in the Innerste Valley.

Due to the lack of surviving records, it is unfortunately no longer possible to determine exactly when the dam of the Klein-Clausthal Pond was built. This probably happened in the years following the Thirty Years' War, but perhaps even before the end of this devastating catastrophe. In any case, surviving documents prove that the Klein-Clausthal Pond already existed in 1680.
