Elbe side-wheel tugboat "Württemberg" - in the cultural park Rotehorn Magdeburg

Since April 21, 1976, the Magdeburg cultural park Rotehorn has a special attraction to offer: the Elbeseitenradschleppdampfer "Württemberg", which is on the Elbe meadows in front of the city hall "at anchor". He is the last representative of a since 1818 after hundreds counting paddle steamer fleet on our home stream and thus a unique technical monument. The 1908/09 built and decommissioned in April 1974 steamer was rebuilt by a large joint work of many companies, institutions and citizens of the city of Magdeburg and other places in the GDR to a museum and restaurant ship.

The steamer "Württemberg" had its "cradle" on the shipyard and Maschinenfabrik Gebrüder Sachsenberg in Roßlau (Elbe). His client was the New German-Bohemian Elbe shipping AG (NDBE) in Dresden. Under the flag of this company, the ship sailed until the spring of 1945. In the last days of the war, the steamer was heavily damaged by low-flying attack and burned out partially. Reconstructed at the shipyard Dresden-Laubegast until November 1946, he set off again. In the approximately 28 years of its use after the Second World War, the ship had a considerable share in the fulfillment of the tasks of the GDR inland shipping. As at the beginning of the sixties, the comprehensive modernization of the fleet took place, one tugboat after another came out of service. The restaurant in the rear (100 seats) offers a pleasant stay with attentive service with fine food and drinks.

Today, the steamboat near the Elbe kilometer 325 below the Sternbrücke in Magdeburg is far from the fairway on land.
