Schermcke Castle

A castle was mentioned as early as the 12th century, which passed into the possession of the von der Asseburg family in 1373. However, she did not stay there very long, because only 23 years later, in 1396, the village of Schermcke and the castle were pledged to Busso von Berwinkel for 200 marks by Bishop Albrecht IV of Querfurt. In 1511, a new four-winged castle was built, which over 200 years later, in 1720, became a Prussian domain.

In 1900 ownership of the castle changed hands to Ernst Wrede. With the change of ownership came the major renovation. In 1902, Ernst Wrede had the Schermcker Castle, which still exists today, built on the walls of the almost 500-year-old castle.
