Tips

  • The St. Markus Church was built between 1931 and 1940 on the site of an older church (1835). It is built in the Serbian-Byzantine style. Until the construction of the Cathedral of St. Sava was considered the church of St. Markus is the largest Orthodox church in the former Yugoslavia. As with the Cathedral of St. Sava, the Second World War prevented the completion of the church, so that large areas of the interior are still in a shell state.

  • St. Mark's Church is a Neo-Byzantine style rebuilt Serbian Orthodox church in Belgrade, mainly 1931-40; the Second World War prevented its completion, and so it is still being built today.
The church is dedicated to St. Mark the Apostle and Evangelist. After the Cathedral of Saint Sava, it is the second largest church in both Belgrade and the country, and it is incredibly high: 60m at the apex!
