A precise dating of the foundation cannot yet be given. The chapel is probably over 100 years old, even though sounds can be heard that date the chapel to the beginning of the 19th century. It is plausible that the current chapel replaced the niche chapel situated next to it in the wall, this because of the increased popularity of Our Lady of Rest, which was of course due to the centuries-old legend about the origin of the niche chapel. A man and woman ask Mary to intercede for their very restless child, with the promise to build a chapel if the child would calm down. The child died, but a little later the chapel was built anyway to be visited by mothers with restless or 'difficult' children up to this day. Others whose hearts are full of restlessness due to experienced disappointment, sorrow and disillusionment also visited the chapel. After the war the chapel fell into disrepair, but was completely restored in the early 1960s. The polychrome wooden statue of Mary and child is dated late 19th, early 20th century. Hilarion Thans, the singing Franciscan, composes a procession song, the chorus of which is: Our Lady of Rest, You who soothe care and sorrow, Let us, seated with you, Find peace, forget sorrow.
