The golden-yellow Acacia longifolia shrub grows directly on the dune sand and plays a crucial role in Sardinia's coastal ecosystem. Its spherical flowers and rod-like branches with needle-like phyllodes are part of an invasive species originally introduced to reinforce the dunes. The Australian acacia has successfully spread due to its adaptability to nutrient-poor soils, drought resistance, and nitrogen fixation in the soil, but it is displacing native plant species and permanently altering the natural vegetation of the Mediterranean coast.
