The former city gate to the east is one of the city's oldest landmarks.

The Upper Gate Tower is the only one of three gate towers in the historic old town that has survived. An exhibition on five levels tells the history of the tower and the city. The climb to the almost 40-meter-high tower is worthwhile, as the view from the top is breathtaking and immediately compensates for the 95 steps you have to climb.

First mentioned in documents in 1290, it was rebuilt after the city fire of 1718 and given its current half-timbered structure in 1881. Until the 19th century, it served as the seat of the High Watch and the official residence of the town musician.
