The upper gate tower is the former city gate to the east and one of the oldest landmarks of the city of Marbach am Neckar. It was probably built in the 15th century and destroyed in the town fire in 1693. It was later rebuilt and renovated. In the tower there is an exhibition on five floors about the history of the tower and the city. The ascent to the almost 40 m high tower is worthwhile because the view from the balcony is overwhelming and immediately compensates for the 95 steps that you had to climb.
Opening times: Daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. From November to March only from Monday to Friday. Closed from December 24th to January 1st.
Admission: Free during the week. Weekends €1 from April to October.

The upper gate tower in Marbach was probably built in the 15th century and destroyed in the town fire in 1693. It was rebuilt in 1717/18 and renewed in 1881. The alliance coat of arms of Duke Carl Alexander von Württemberg and his wife Princess Maria Augusta von Thurn und Taxis is attached to the outside of the city as a reconstruction of the coat of arms from 1736.
On the city side there is a statue to the left of the fallen of the First World War. A geographic position fix can be found in the passage.
There is a permanent exhibition in the gate tower, which is freely accessible on weekends from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On weekdays, the tower key can be picked up nearby. An information board provides information.

.. in "Marbach am Neckar" in the district of Ludwigsburg, Baden-Württemberg
        - the "Upper Gate Tower" is the only preserved former city gate (to the east)
        - there were three gate towers in total
        - today serves as a museum and can be "climbed" (see opening times!)
