- the "Zentrum für Psychiatrie Winnenden (ZfP)" wants to commemorate the victims of the "Heilanstalt Winnental" during the Nazi era with this memorial
- around 400 patients were deported from Winnenden to the "extermination facilities Grafeneck and Hadamar" and murdered there
- further patients of the institution died of hunger, cold and illness or were forcibly sterilized
