Monument erected in 1836 by Henri Lemaire (sculptor) and Louis Soyer (founder) in honor of François de Chevert, general under Louis XV, born in Verdun in 1695 and died in Paris in 1769. Opened on May 1, 1837. Originally surrounded by a small garden, it now stands in the middle of the square in the middle of a mineral space framed by boundary stones and chains. The base was designed by Jacques Cauyette, city architect.
