The source design with the artwork of the 5 water spirits - mythical creatures lurking between the source stones in the water - is intended to encourage people to discover and appreciate water as a source of life. For the children there is a completely redesigned playground on the theme of "water" with many action options, such as a wooden ship and a stream with a pump. The Vilsquelle is the starting point for bike tours and hikes. This is where the 90 km Vilstal hiking trail begins.

The Vils rises in the middle of Kleinschönbrunn (Freihung municipality) and flows into the Naab at Kallmünz after 78 kilometers. This is where the Vilstal hiking trail (blue cross in landscape format on a white background) begins and accompanies the most important rivers in the Amberg-Sulzbach region 89 kilometers to the mouth - sometimes directly on the shore, sometimes a little away from it.
