Beautiful Catholic Church in Xinhe Town, Chongming.
From the information board out front of the church: in 1637 a Buddhist monk met an Italian missionary - and became the first Catholic parishioner on Chongming. This church itself though was only built in the Qing Dynasty (around 1865).
Service were stopped during the Cultural Revolution and only resumed in 1981.
