Hiking
The Maria da Fonte statue was designed by Funchal sculptor Amândio Manuel Abreu de Sousa in 1964. It has been located in several locations, always referred to by the locals as a female seal. Finally, in 2004, the statue was erected here. It is said that throwing a coin into the water in her direction while thinking of a wish will bring good luck.
