The thermal water is surface water from the post-glacial period that has sunk into granite layers at a depth of 2500 to 3000 m. After it has warmed up to around 120°C, it emerges again above ground at 35-41°C after a circulation period of between 7500 and 12000 years. Thermal springs, whose therapeutic healing effects were already known in ancient times, were also popular in Germany in the Middle Ages.
