The ramparts were once a bastion bristling with weapons. In 1803, the transformation of the rampart, which had long since been of no military significance, into a "green ring" around the historic old town began. They are the green lungs of Bremen's city center.🟢🫁

The ramparts have been a listed building since 1976. The mill was built on the rampart and paths were laid out through the individual parks and around the city moat. Citizens could contribute by donating trees - even today.🌳 The aim was to transform the rampart into an English landscape garden.

Today, the ramparts are an idyllic place for local recreation. In the past, the ramparts were divided into sections in a star shape and there were defensive towers at regular intervals or guardhouses at the city gates. Today, these individual sections are still clearly visible and are separated from each other by the main roads. They have become places of peace and relaxation for the respective districts and increase the quality of life.
