Hiking

Two main construction phases can be identified on the building. The initial Byzantine church of the 12th century presently houses the sanctuary. During the Second Venetian period (1685-1715) a spacious domed hall was added to the west, currently the nave of the monument, along with the turreted belltower which was constructed above the northeast corner.
The Greek War of Independence was declared here on the 23rd March 1821.
