The main building of the station - the railway station was built in 1871. According to the famous traveler and historian P.P. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, the building of the Borisoglebsk railway station was one of "the most beautiful buildings on the entire network of South-Eastern Railways". The composition of the facades is inspired by the Renaissance, while the decor uses elements of Russian style and classicism. The interests of the rapidly developing industry, domestic and foreign trade urgently required the construction of railways. In March 1868, the Borisoglebsk district zemstvo received a concession for the construction of the Gryazi-Borisoglebsk railway line, 199 miles long. The largest shareholders in the Borisoglebsk district were P.I. Gubonin and S.M. Volkonsky. The construction of the road began in May 1869, and in December of the same year the entire line of the first section from Gryazi to Borisoglebsk was already built. The road was opened for passenger trains on December 4, and for freight trains on December 12. In the same year, the operation of the station building began, where the administration of the Gryazi-Tsaritsyn railway was located from 1871 to 1893. Along with the construction of the Borisoglebsk-Gryazi railway line, the infrastructure of the Borisoglebsk station was formed: a depot, workshops, where about 1,000 peasants from the surrounding villages came to earn money, barracks for workers of the railway workshops, a hospital, a bathhouse, a technical railway school.
