Better bring some warm clothes even if it's a warm day. The winds up the hill may surprise you..

Stop at Peratallada-it’s in the neighborhood. A beautiful, well preserved and restored thousand year old village which played a vital role in medieval Spain.

The castle complex stands on the top of the 301 m high Montgrí ('gray mountain') in the Montgrí massif. From there there is a wide view over the Alt- and the Baix Empordà with the lowlands of the Ter as well as the Mediterranean with the Bay of Roses. The castle, visible from afar, is the symbol of the region. Mountain and castle can be found on coat of arms and in logos. The former fortification is located a few hundred meters north of Torroella de Montgrí.
