This oldest church in Borisoglebsk was built in 1703 and was originally wooden. The stone church building was erected on the site of the wooden church in 1792. Until 1917, the church was called the Old Cathedral Assumption Church and had three altars: the main one - the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos and the side altars - the Holy Blessed Princes Boris and Gleb and the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki. In 1852, a new Transfiguration Cathedral was erected, which became the main church of the city. Since that time, the Assumption Church has been called the Old Cathedral. Since 1999, work has been underway to restore the church. Now it is consecrated in the name of the Holy Martyrs Boris and Gleb. New icons have been painted in Moscow workshops. The wooden carving of the interior of the church is truly unique, striking in its elegance and majestic solemnity. The church has an icon of Our Lady of Kazan, "Vyshinskaya", revered by believers.
