The Church of the Blessed Virgin of Carmel and of the Souls in Purgatory (also known as "il Purgatorio", is a religious building in Mottola .
The church is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel and to the Souls in Purgatory. It was built in 1699, close to the ancient medieval walls dating back to the 13th century and completed around 1714. In 1873, once the fortification walls on which the church was “supported” were demolished, an extension was carried out towards the west, deepening the pre-existing apse and reaching its current planimetric conformation.
