Bike Touring Highlight
The "Grimberger Sichel" bridge over the Rhine-Herne Canal at the Grimberg harbor connects the northern and southern parts of the canal. It forms the end of the Erzbahntrasse adventure bike path. The Grimberger Sichel was designed by the well-known architects Schlaich Bergermann und Partner. The opening took place in 2009. The asymmetrical steel construction on a 48 meter high steel pylon and with a span of around 150 meters was awarded the European Steel Bridges Award 2010 by the European Convention for Steel Construction. Not only does it look great, you can just watch the ships there or watch the canoeists paddling!
