Maltzien Lower Lighthouse

Small beautiful lighthouse with a great view of the water. A little out of the way, but easy to get to via a dirt road.

The “Maltzien” lighthouse is one of those towers that is only known and visited by real lighthouse fans. This is not a “classic” lighthouse anyway, as the tower only carries a signal headlight as a sublight of a directional light line. The upper fire is located 675 m away on an iron lattice tower typical of the German Baltic Sea, a little further inland and is therefore not presented here.The small stone tower dates from 1934 and stands on the Strelasund, which separates the island of Rügen from the mainland. On its platform it carries a simple fall protection and the holder for the headlight.The leading light line serves as a navigation aid for ships coming from the Greifswald port of Wieck when entering the narrow ship passage to transit to Stralsund. She once replaced the lightship “Palmerort” at this point. Anyone who takes the car ferry between Stahlbrode (near Reinberg) and Losentitz can see the inconspicuous tower standing on the bank about 500 meters away. The tower can be reached from the eponymous village of Maltzien.
