Here nature and culture go hand in hand! While the Rijn en IJssel water board only maintains the other side of this waterway, the bank you are now walking on has been designed to be environmentally friendly. This provides a perfect habitat for the great crested newt and the tree frog.
Thanks to the many bankside plants, all kinds of dragonflies and butterflies flutter around here. On the other side you can still see hedgerows and wooded banks, the predecessors of modern barbed wire. In the past, these green barriers ensured that cattle remained within the pastures. 🌿✨
