2024 marks exactly a century since the death of the famous Flemish painter Emile Claus.
In response, exhibitions and other events were organised here and there in the Leie region, of which the overview exhibition in the MuDeL in Deinze was undoubtedly the largest and most successful.
Emile Claus was born here in Sint-Eloois-Vijve in 1849.
One of his most famous works, "The Cockfight", depicts several people who were well-known in Waregem at the time. In response to an experiential exhibition organised in 2024 around Emile Claus, these "old" people from Waregem are depicted here in mirror panels. Depending on where you look from, it sometimes seems as if these people have really been absorbed into the current environment.
The exhibition (where "The Cockfight" was on display in the Sint-Eligiuskerk) has long since expired. The mirror panels are still there... hopefully for a long time to come.
