Cycling
Westphalia when it came to the energy required for grinding
to win the grain. The mills only lost their importance when
Engines independent of wind and water drive the grinding stones
could take over. The old mills are long gone
many have fallen into disrepair or been demolished.
Some of these contemporary witnesses of the pre-industrial
rial age have been preserved. In Werne, for example, a late 17th
Century built windmill of the monastery Cappenberg for residential
purposes.
