In addition to stations, guardhouses and signal houses were also built along the Bels Lijntje. The guardhouses or "route houses" were popularly called "roethuisjes".
At each level crossing, a railway guard lived who, sometimes with a chain across the road, had to stop road traffic. A number of these original guardhouses can still be admired along the cycle path from Tilburg to Turnhout.
At this location you are standing at a signal house.
