"The Royal Saxon triangulation (here with the historical proper name) is a state survey carried out in the years 1862 to 1890 on the territory of the Kingdom of Saxony with the simultaneous creation of a trigonometric network.

The aim was to record the national territory scientifically and geodetically and to create the basis for the production of precise maps by establishing permanently marked reference points." - de.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%B6niglich-S %C3%axial_triangulation

Since the host mountain was in a narrow strip of land in Saxony, the density of triangulation stations is quite high. You can see the stations of Kapellenberg, Hainberg, Schöneck (Friedrichstein), Kiel and Aschberg.

The 664 meter high mountain offers a particularly beautiful view, because the Wirtsberg is an unforested table mountain and thus the view is unobstructed in all directions.
Schöneck, the Aschberg or the Hainberg on the Bohemian side can be seen from here.

In 1986, the plans to build a shelter on the Wirtsberg were implemented.
The construction is made almost entirely of wood and is intended to be reminiscent of a charcoal kiln that was operated near the Wirtsberg. The construction was built by the craftsmen of the open-air museum and a nearby LPG.

But in fact the octagonal tower is more reminiscent of a lemon squeezer. The 9 m high tower offers a fantastic view on two floors. The information boards make orientation easier.

Right next to the tower is a triangulation column from 1876.

The Wirtsberg with its special kind of vantage point offers a wonderful view and farsightedness of the entire German and Czech area. There are also a number of benches, both indoors and outdoors, that invite you to take a break and enjoy the beauty of nature. I never thought that you could have such a beautiful view from this supposedly small hill.
