The coastal settlement was originally founded under the name Puerto de La Oliva and was intended to be developed into a large holiday resort. This plan was never put into practice - probably due to the impassable coast. Today there are a few small holiday homes in the town and on the coast, about 500 metres away. A large part of the local population is made up of locals.
