The Riedensee, a nature reserve on the Baltic Sea, is one of the last beach lakes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania that still exist in their original state. Only narrow dunes separate it from the Baltic Sea. Through a breach, the salt water of the Baltic Sea mixes with its fresh water, which feeds it via streams that rise in the cooling.
