The church of San Giovanni in Monte is a place of great historical and spiritual significance, located on the top of Mount Ragogna.
Its origins are ancient, with evidence dating back to the 13th century and perhaps even to the Lombard period.
Over time, the church suffered damage during the First and Second World Wars, but was always rebuilt maintaining its 13th-century style.
Today, the church is an integral part of the "Alpine Sacred Zone", a place dedicated to the memory of those who fell in war.
In particular, the church remembers the Alpini of the "Julia" and the "Gemona" battalion, who died in the sinking of the steamship "Galilea".
Every year, on the last Sunday of March, an Alpine celebration is held in their honor, which has become a tradition deeply associated with Mount Ragogna.
Visiting the church of San Giovanni means immersing yourself in the history and spirituality of the place, honoring the memory of those who gave their lives for their country.
