The old village center of Pesterwitz is located on a hill at about 270 m above sea level, southwest of Dresden and (north)west of Freital and the Weißeritz. It was probably built in the 11th century, i.e. before the nearby Thorun Castle, whose demolition in 1206 led to the first known mention of Dresden. Today, Pesterwitz is the northernmost part of Freital and a popular residential area. It is also located on the Way of St. James, which is also indicated by the name of the St. Jacobi Church.
