The old castle Alsenburg, popularly known as Dieburg, has been reconstructed here ..... About taste can be argued ...

Alsenborn Castle was probably built in the first half of the 12th century (the Hohenstaufen period). A mighty tower surrounded by a defensive wall once stood here. A moat several meters wide and deep ran around this defensive wall.

Today, only a small partial reconstruction can be found here on a small hill directly in front of the Alsenborn outdoor swimming pool, after the first excavations took place here around 1960. Before that, the "Dieburg" and its ruins lay unnoticed underground for many centuries.

The hill of the lowland castle is located on a meadow at approximately 288 meters above sea level. The castle is thus a motte-and-bailey castle. The hill is located on the grounds of the Alsenborn swimming pool. Visitors can visit the castle and use the adjacent playground.

No reliable information is available about Alsenborn Castle. The ministeriales Heinrich and Hunfried von Alsenzeburne and Alsencebrunn, respectively, are mentioned in 1148 and again in 1172. The last recorded mention of a Gudelmanni de Alzenzburne was in 1172. (Wikipedia)
