In the outside chapel below the church of St. Matthias in Ulmen there is a depiction of the Mother of God called "Pieta", with Mary holding her dead son on her lap. Probably the world's most famous depiction of a "Pieta" is in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome and was created by the young Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564).

Hiking

The St. Matthias church was probably built around the year 1000 and originally probably used as a castle chapel. The tomb inscriptions of the Ulmener lords, the baptismal font from the 13th century and the tabernacle and a small side altar from the 17th century have been preserved to this day and bring the history of the former castle chapel back to life. With alterations in 1905, a document came to light, which points to a consecration in 1486. From 1967-68, the church was extended by a new altar room and two aisles, which now combine modernity with history.
